Innovation in Higher Education…Just Add Salt and Light
Innovation: Train for outcomes not life experience.
Desired Outcome: A young, inspired and debt-free Kingdom workforce.
The investment of college has become a loser’s game for our young people. In many cases, they leave school without the skills or experience needed in the real world to land a good job and student loans can take decades to pay back. Disruption is just waiting in the hallways. Enter MissionU, a one-year program that gives young people the skills and experience needed to launch a successful career. It’s also success based; if they don’t get a job, they don’t pay. MissionU may not be Christian but the concept is definitely adaptable for Kingdom workers.
Hire When the Fire is Hot…Not Just When You Have an Open Position
Innovation: Hire for fit, not for position.
Desired Outcome: Getting the right people on the bus.
Have you ever had the right person apply for the wrong job? We tend to hire for the position and not for the fit or future prospects. It’s important to remember that only one in seven people are A-players so when that person walks into your church, ministry or Christian business, get them on the bus as soon as you can and work with them to find the right seat. Innovation in hiring will lead to innovation in your products and service.
Don’t Hate Me Because I’m Innovative
Innovation: Take people and policy off auto-pilot.
Desired Outcome: Finding new opportunities through taking our thoughts captive.
We’ve all heard “don’t hate me because I’m beautiful” but innovative not so much. However, innovative people are often shut down by a lazy system, organization or manager. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. Don’t wake a sleeping dog. These same tired cliches will automatically dictate to people and policy unless you take them off of auto-pilot. Who’s flying this plane anyway? If you don’t know where you are going, any road will take you there.
